We haven't tested an FR-S with the automatic, but a not exactly identical Subaru BRZ equipped with the automatic transmission clocked a slower, 7.9-second 0-60 time. A 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine generating 200 hp and 151 pound-feet of torque is the sole power plant for the Scion FRS. In testing, a manual-equipped Scion FR-S sprinted from zero to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds -- quick, although much less fast as more powerful but heavier sport coupes. The six-speed manual 2016 FR-S returns a good EPA estimate of 25 mpg combined (22 city/30 highway), as the automatic achieves an impressive 28 mpg combined (25/34). You are able to mate it to either the standard six-speed manual transmission or the optional six-speed automatic with paddle shifters and rev-matched downshifts.

 

 

 

 

Autos,[34] sales are expected to start in the next quarter of 2012 as the Scion FR-S. The Scion FR-S Sports Coupe Concept, where FR-S means Front-engine, Rear-wheel drive, Sport, was unveiled at the 2011 New York International Auto Show.

 

 

 

 

The 86, BRZ and FR-S are given with two 6-speed transmissions, an in-house developed Toyota TL70 manual gearbox, and an Aisin-Warner A960E, which is modified from that applied to the Lexus IS 250. The FR-S uses the Subaru FA20/Toyota 4U-GSE naturally aspirated 2.0L (1,998 cc) flat-four engine with Subaru's horizontally-opposed boxer engine design and Toyota's D-4S injection system, which uses both direct and port fuel injection. Within the 86's low-weight design, the vehicle utilizes an aluminum hood, a good roof, and a trunk. The FA20/4U-GSE produces 200 hp (149 kW) at 7,000 rpm and 151 ft·lb (205 N·m) at 6,000 rpm.

 

 

 

 

The FR-S features a "triple-tap" launch speed (+Nitro Starter -Tuning Kit) of around 3 seconds, with decent acceleration. The FR-S has superior handling to all the cars before it, but inferior handling to the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA. Because of this, it is overshadowed by the Mini Cooper S Roadster, which can be higher-ranked and like the FR-S stats-wise (apart from possessing poor drifting), giving it a greater top speed. The FR-S has outstanding drifting but only a mediocre nitro efficiency of 7/13/17.

 

 

 

 

In testing, the 2022 FRS with a submachine gun, but the almost identical Subaru BRZ equipped with a submachine gearbox was slower, running 0-60 times in 7.9 seconds. Buyer may add it to a regular six-speed gearbox or to an exercise shifter with a six-speed automatic and the corresponding down shifts. The six-speed manual Scion FRS returns a respectable EPA rating for 25 mpg (22 city / 30 highway) and automatically achieves an impressive 28 mpg (25/34) result. Throughout the test, the manually equipped Scion FR-S accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds faster, but more powerful, but like heavier sports coupes. The 2.0-liter horizontally four-cylinder engine, which produces 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, is the sole power plant for the Scion FRS.

 

 

 

 

In the backseat, legroom is next to nil, heads bob perilously near to the rear glass and the center tunnel impedes hiproom. Scion has updated the touchscreen-based speakers this year, so there's probably less of a reason in 2021 to go for the upgraded BeSpoke system unless you really would like navigation and smartphone app integration. The FR-S's front seats are comfortable for long-distance trips while providing firm support for hard driving. Trunk space is minuscule at 6.9 cubic feet, although folding down the mostly useless rear seat expands cargo-carrying abilities considerably. Drivers of nearly any size will find an appropriate driving position, and the low-profile hood allows an expansive view of the trail ahead.

 

 

 

 

In government crash tests, the Scion FR-S received five out of five stars for overall crash protection, with four stars for total frontal crash protection and five stars for total side impact safety. In Edmunds brake testing, a Scion FR-S came to an end from 60 mph in 117 feet. That is a respectable distance, but somewhat longer than average for a vehicle with summer tires. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded it the best possible rating of "Good" in the moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact, roof-strength and head restraint tests. Standard safety features on the 2022 Scion FR-S include antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. The Scion received the second-highest score of "Acceptable" in the small-overlap frontal-offset test.

 

 

 

 

The 2016 Scion FR-S gets a rearview camera, a brand new 7-inch touchscreen and silver interior trim. Besides exterior color and transmission choices, Scion doesn't offer any factory choices for the FR-S. Instead, there's a range of dealer-installed accessories such as foglights, performance parts and a premium BeSpoke speakers with navigation, additional smartphone app integration and Internet radio.

 

 

 

 

Standard Scion FRS equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, air-conditioning, full power accessories, a height-adjustable driver seat, a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped tyre, cruise control, a rearview camera, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and an eight-speaker sound system with a 7-inch touchscreen, voice commands, HD radio, Aha radio, a reliable audio jack and a USB interface. The 2022 Scion FRS is a sport coupe comes in a single trim level.
